Letter from the Principal- February 27
NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I hope that everyone was able to experience a wonderful February break. I saw many teachers in the school over break getting ready for the next few weeks of school. Children returned on Tuesday happy and healthy, ready to get down to work! Next week we begin the Holy Season of Lent with a Mass and distribution of ashes at Our Lady of Lourdes. I look forward to many of our families joining us!
MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL HONOR ROLL RECOGNITIONS!
Once again, Seton students have performed very well at their next schools! Included in this Brown Envelope are the list of Seton students who have made the Honor Rolls from Aquinas and Siena. If you see any of these students please Congratulation them to all on their hard work!
Also, Molly Topa and Sophia Dvonch were both recognized at Mercy for their outstanding character!!!!.
Preschool will begin the month of March celebrating
Dr. Seuss’ birthday by reading several of his books, using a variety of objects to measure their feet to go along with The Foot Book, creating their own nonsense rhymes similar to There’s a Wocket in my Pocket, creating Thing 1 and Thing 2 using blow paint, and counting apples like in Ten Apples Up on Top.
In conjunction with Read Across America, they will be having a “mystery reader” visit us each day to share a story with them. They will also be learning about rainbows and weather, doing some fun St. Patrick’s Day literacy and math activities, and talking about Jesus’ death and resurrection.
Meghan Trevor (former Seton Student) has asked us to help out with her senior project at Mercy. She is gathering supplies for the Women’s Care Center. This is a one week effort and will conclude on March 5th, so get your donations in! Help support mothers in need! Please see the flyer enclosed in the Brown Envelope.
THANK YOU TO VOLUNTEERS
The little things you do mean so much. I think of the beautiful wreaths that grace our doors each change of season and I immediately think of Jen Granger (a former parent) who provides her time and talent to make them special. I think of the volunteers who come to every PTA, SAC and Foundation meeting, sharing their expertise in order to provide special programs and events for our children. I think of our wonderful Lunch Moms and Dads and who sacrifice their own work lunches or free time in order to create a safe, caring environment for the children to dine. I think of the people who volunteer in our library, classroom centers and afterschool activities. I think of our BLAST! Committee members and sub chairs who have been working for months in order to make our March 9th (next Saturday!) event successful and memorable. To them I give our greatest appreciation for their generosity. These people, too numerous to name here, are actually a short list, a fraction of what is needed in order to make things happen for our children in the school. Lent is a time of giving. If you cannot include yourself on these lists of people volunteering in various ways for Seton, perhaps now is the time to offer up a bit of time or talent in order to make sure these wonderful things continue to happen for our children. Please contact the main office for opportunities that may align with your life!
Our 25th annual BLAST Gala is quickly approaching on Saturday, March 9TH, and again, it will be held at Max of Eastman Place! I hope everyone is able to attend! It is a great time to make new friends and get reacquainted with old friends!
The committee is working hard to make this a night to remember! The theme this year is Mardi Gras and promises to celebrate all things Seton! There will be live & silent auctions, food, drink, music and dancing! Don’t miss out!
If you didn’t receive your invitation, please let the office know and we will get one right out to you!
Plans are coming together for the 17th annual Seton Open.
It’s scheduled for Friday, May 17 at Shadow Lake! Register to play golf or just join us for the dinner. Either way it’s a great time!
This coming Saturday is the Seton Chess Tournament. Every year students from all over the area come to Seton to compete! This is a great chance for our students to shine. There’s a registration form in this packet. We have so many who are amazing chess players! Thank you in advance to Sheila Giess for coordinating this event. She is one of our great volunteers! If you’d like to help, contact her-she’d be glad to have you!
The last Friday of the month is “Spirit-Wear day”! Students may wear any Seton spirit-wear: sweatshirt & t-shirts with Seton on it, little Angel shirts, CYO soccer or basketball jerseys… They must wear their school uniform pants or skirts. If it is a gym day, they of course would wear their gym shorts or sweats. This Friday is the last Friday of the month and so it is a “Spirit-Wear” day!
PTA DATE CHANGE
With next Wednesday being Ash Wednesday, it is necessary for us to change our meeting date. PTA will meet on Wed., Mar. 13th @ 7:00.
Once again this year we will participate in the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl Campaign. Last year we raised over $2,000!! Right before Easter we will again have our counting day; where our older students help our younger students to count what is in their Rice Bowls. Please help us to gather coins and dollar bills to see how much we can be like the Good Samaritan. Rice Bowls will be turned in by Monday, April 1st so that we have them all to present at mass on April 5th when Bishop Matano visits. If your child needs a new Rice Bowl, please let the office know and we will get you one.
Third Grade collected over 25,000 pop-top tabs for the Ronald McDonald House!!! Way to go!!!
